Job Summary:

Amherstview Eyecare is looking to hire a licensed optician (full- or part-time). We pride ourselves on providing sincere customer service, thorough eye exams, and an attractive range of frames and lens choices personalized to fit the needs of our rapidly expanding patient base. Job Responsibilities:

  • mastering the patient hand-off from the optometrist to ensure a confident transfer of care;
  • taking customer information and measurements;
  • recommending eyewear appropriate for a patient’s personality, proportions, lifestyle, and budget, all in a friendly, confident, reassuring manner;
  • adjusting and fitting frames according to prescriptions, patient specifications, and facial structures;
  • educating customers on how to wear and maintain glasses and contact lenses;
  • repairing bent or broken frames, or taking steps to facilitate replacements if needed;
  • using appropriate equipment (pupilometers, calipers, lensometers, etc);
  • troubleshooting when patients are unable to adapt to their new glasses
  • taking ownership of the frame board by maintaining accurate inventory, keeping displays fresh and attractive, and refreshing the selection as needed based on what appeals to our patient base;
  • keeping store records and maintaining sales metrics;
  • communicating regularly and professionally with labs, suppliers, and frame company representatives;
  • handling administrative duties such as managing prescriptions, customer records, and insurance;
  • covering reception duties if other staff are busy (greeting customers, answering phones and emails in a timely manner, etc.).
  • Must be registered and in good standing with the College of Opticians of Ontario.

Optician Licence Requirements:

  • willingness to learn and grow;
  • fine attention to detail;
  • excellent customer service;
  • ability to build rapport with patients of all ages and backgrounds;
  • personable yet professional written and verbal skills;
  • proficiency with computers;
  • previous experience in retail optical or a similar environment;
  • previous experience in clinical work.
