Our Optometry clinic is hiring an Optical Manager at Kingsway Eye Care, our opticians develop relationships with our patients by providing a level of high-end service that exceeds expectations. Our eyewear boutique has a wide selection of unique & fashionable frames from around the world and our team is committed to helping patients find the perfect frame/lens to fit their needs. We have relationships with the best contact lens providers in the industry.

Unique to our office, we offer low vision device aids and offer vision therapy treatment. Our optician will play an important role with our doctors in the dispensing and management of both treatments.

We are looking for a mature and experienced individual who is looking for an opportunity to care for the optical needs of our patients, to work in a fast-paced, positive and friendly environment.

Location: Kingsway Eye Care is located Toronto near the intersection of Royal York and Bloor (Royal York Subway Station)

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day supervision of the optical boutique, including sales, staff, stock, and resource management
  • Ability to act as an ambassador by professionally representing Kingsway Eye Care at all times
  • Develop strong long-standing relationships with patients by providing superior service including helping patients find eyewear solutions, post-sale follow-ups and addressing any patient inquiries promptly
  • Assist patients in selecting frames and lenses that are appropriate for their prescription and lifestyle and be able to confidently and clearly communicate the features and benefits of various products to patients
  • Demonstrate superior product knowledge and be able to give expert style advice
  • Listen to patients needs and wants and offer products which are suitable for them
  • Precisely take and record measurements for eyewear and ensure finished glasses are made to Rx specifications
  • Perform adjustments to eyewear correctly
  • Anticipate problems; explore underlying reasons for Rx/non-adapt issues; strive to develop long-term solutions to problems and ensure patients are satisfied and expectations are exceeded
  • Edge lenses accurately in office and be able to maintain and troubleshoot issues that may arise with the edger
  • Process, receive and inspect lab orders
  • Input lenses and frames into our inventory management system
  • Demonstrate effective problem-solving skills
  • Educate doctors on new lens products that become available and work with doctors to determine solutions for patients needs
  • Set a be a positive role model for others and lead by example; be diligent, conscientious, hard working, punctual, provide exceptional service and train and encourage other staff members to succeed
  • Assist other staff with difficult or complex areas of product needs & prescriptions
  • Demonstrate effective communication, listening and team building skills
  • Adhere to and enforce our operating procedures, policies, and safety protocols
  • Take initiative to maintain cleanliness of optical boutique and lab area and secure & protect company assets
  • Demonstrate and enforce safe work practices
  • Maintain inventory by selecting and purchasing frames and handle returns ensuring that products available meet the needs of our patients and lens inventory remains well stocked
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with frame and lens reps and lab technicians
  • Possess strong organizational skills and finish tasks in a timely manner
  • Internal marketing and merchandising of optical products and services
  • Implement and oversee social media marketing of the optical part of the office

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Possess Registered Opticians' License in Ontario
  • 5+ years of recent optical experience in an optical role
  • 5+ years of managerial experience
  • Fluent in oral and written English
  • Computer skills along with familiarity in excel/word

Full-time hours: 40 hours per week
