Optometric Assistant - Dr. Brown and Associates

We are searching for 2 new employees for our Uptown Optometry practice.

Consider joining our caring and dedicated office team in Saint John's top rated optometry practice. Brown and Associates has a long history of excellent patient care in a large practice located on Germain Street in Uptown Saint John. The practice has 5 doctors and a team of 14 employees.

The role of Optometric Assistant is the Swiss Army Knife of the optometry world - you will be working in all areas of the practice and learning new skills that can set you up for a long-term career in Eyecare. For those who are interested in further development, we will pay for you to get your Canadian Certified Optometric Assistant designation (CCOA) and/or your Optician's License.

The successful candidate will learn to handle all of the tasks in an optometry office from reception, preliminary diagnostic testing, to dispensing and quality control. Your main responsibilities will include:

    • Working closely with our optometrists and teammates to provide excellent patient/customer care
    • Educating patients on eye health and related issues
    • Insurance billings
    • Accurate and careful handling of patient files
    • Reception and telephone duties
    • Preliminary diagnostic testing
    • Data entry, accurately completing daily reports
    • Helping patients choose optical frames and lenses

Strong communication skills and attention to detail are a must. An ideal candidate is self-motivated to grow and learn. Experience is an asset but we are open to those who are new to Optometry as well.

Hours will vary between 24 - 40 depending on business needs and would include some evening shifts until 8pm 2 or 3 times per month.

Compensation starts at $17.42 - more if you have experience.
